Baby Eden Grace born at my house!  – by Tammy McO

The Story of Salisbury Baby #6

Dear Darci,

What a privilege and honor to be a witness of one of the most miraculous events of my lifetime! To see the Hand of God orchestrating every detail of the day and time He had ordained for Eden to come forth, planned before the foundation of the world was made. (Eph. 1) All I can say is, “Wow!” He is so good and loves you SO much that He planned to answer every prayer that we were believing Him for…and boy did He answer your desires for NO medical intervention! Wow!

I am awed at His protection and care of you and the baby, and that she was born safely, is healthy, and you were also under His protection…Praise His Holy Name! Thank you Lord!

Here is what happened from my perspective:

Julie woke me to tell me you were in labor and she left, going to the hospital I assumed. Seconds later she came bursting back into my room, telling me to get up, that Irv said to call 911 and to bring me to your house because you were not going to make it to the hospital. I stumbled around, grabbed the phone and Julie drove off again. I went outside to talk, on my back sidewalk. I was telling 911 your address, how many weeks pregnant you were, etc. and the next thing I know your Odyssey van is pulling in my driveway. I wondered what was happening, but I told 911 that now you were to be found at 1890 Harris Rd!

Next, Irv jumped out, ran around to my side, you got out and leaned against the van, Irv pushing on your lower back. I said to you, “don’t worry Darci you’re going to be o.k. and we’re going to take care of you.” When that contraction was done, he took out the one of the van seats, and came back to push on your lower back.

911 was telling me to get you in the house, and I may have asked you if we could do that…when you didn’t answer, I just sensed that we were not going anywhere…then 911 asked me if any part of the baby was visible.

I looked under your skirt and saw that you had your underwear on, and I said, “Darci, you have to take your underwear off.” You said, “I know, I will as soon as this is over.” You seemed completely calm, in control of yourself, you were speaking quietly, and you just had the very strong grace of God all over you. But, I could tell that you were in tremendous pain at the same time.

So, Irv took out the other seat, you told someone to get blankets, Julie laid the blankets down, you said, “I can feel the head.”

I could see Mike walking around outside the van, in his flannel pajamas, taking pictures with my camera.

You laid down carefully, spread your legs and there was the head, being born.

911 was telling me to look for a shoelace and at that point, since that seemed SO irrelevant to me, I tossed the phone into the back of the van, with 911 still on the line!

The sac was still intact, which Irv gently broke. You said something about the cord, Irv easily slipped it off over her head, I wiped her face with the blanket and she started crying… You said, “bring her up here, so I can help!” so we laid her on your belly with the blanket over her. I saw her lips pink up, and said, “Oh, we are so happy to see you! Praise the Lord!” Irv prayed a wonderful prayer of thanks and to ask for protection…can’t remember his exact words.

After baby was on your belly, under the blanket, you said, “Is she still a girl?”
I said, “Oh, let me look! Yes, it’s a girl! It’s a girl,” I announced!
What fun to be the announcer of that! :)

She seemed to be doing well moving air, and I put my ear close and heard her clear breathing. You said that you had wanted to nurse her so we lifted your shirt and put her to your breast. You said, “How’s my bleeding?” I looked and saw that there was almost no blood at all, just a lot of poop and meconium! But the blankets under you were dark purple, the lighting was dim, so I couldn’t see too well. But, I was fairly sure that you were not bleeding a lot. About that time, the paramedics arrived and came over smiling, and saying they were glad to hear a baby crying.

I thought they would do more than they did. I guess they clamped the cord, and you told Irv to come over and cut it, with a disposable scalpel they had brought. He did, and one of them carried the baby to the ambulance to warm her up. I’ll bet it was only about 50 degrees outside, which is where we were!

You said your butt was very painful as you tried to move onto the gurney they had brought to the side of the van. When you were on, I kissed your forehead and told you I was so proud of you and that you had been fantastic. They wheeled you down my driveway, and that is the end of the story from my perspective.

Of course, I was wired beyond belief when I came in the house. I kept saying, “I just can’t believe it!” I couldn’t go to sleep for hours, because I was just so full of joy and praise to God for his goodness, protection and love. What an honor to be a witness of the miracle of birth, of the birth of YOUR new baby my dear friend and sister…

And for the new life of Eden Grace Salisbury!

That brought tears to my eyes. What an awesome experience….what an amazing and deep blessing.

My husband always thought we should have a baby at home, but I didn’t think so. Thankfully, we made it to the hospital with all of them.

(I’m trying to put long brown hair on Tammy’s picture. I remember her from a Women’s Bible study in Gananda years ago. Julie was still a preschooler.)
