great communicators
Home-educating our children began as a decision to follow the path the Lord set before us. We love it.
Our primary purpose is to raise homegrown kids that love the Lord our God and His Word with all their hearts, souls and minds.
On our long list of other goals, is a desire to raise children that are great communicators. To equip them with the skills and opportunities to communicate the spoken and written language, to whatever audience God has planned for their future. First most to share the Good News, and second to succeed in their life’s callings.
A recent Above Rubies magazine article spoke of a family gathering with cousins to have a poetry-night. This inspired me to have our very own sharing-night. I imagined gathering to provide an opportunity for our children to share a memorized poem, presentation, scripture, talent or gift - in-front of an audience of peers.
Tonight, we gathered. We began with sunny, outside, fall weather fun. Followed by a yummy chili dinner with homemade bread and fruit salad.
Sharing began on our “stage”, the raised front foyer landing. Each child shared a poem, a scripture, and a musical piece. It was lovely!
We moved and piled into the boys bedroom where our piano lives.

The Littles danced and sang our favorite scripture song from God Rocks, “The Fruit of the Spirit Is”. I love the Biggies clapping along.

Sharing time was followed by an awesome chess tournament. We had three boards going at once. Dads included. (And a table hockey game with checker pieces.) Way to go Declan, the final chess champ of the night!

The Mommies snuggled the babies….

While we were nursing the babies and not able to protect game pieces from disappearing, we did NOT put on a s.h.o.w… I think God made Little Einsteins for such a times as these.
We are grateful and thankful for friends and being blessed with such wonderful kids.
I can see more fun nights like this in our future …
Have you done anything similar before? Please share your ideas! What do you think would be fun and purposeful?
