At Calvary

Homeschool Language Workbook…

Directions: Finish the sentence by putting subjects in the blanks.

________________  died for our sins at Calvary.

student’s answer:   The Army

Sad, humbled teacher.

When I reviewed the incorrect answer with the student,  he answered… “Oh, Jesus.”

I am teaching a hymn today…. always one of my favs!

At Calvary

  1. Years I spent in vanity and pride,
Caring not my Lord was crucified,
Knowing not it was for me He died
    On Calvary.

    • Refrain:
      Mercy there was great, and grace was free;
      Pardon there was multiplied to me;
There my burdened soul found liberty
      At Calvary.
  2. By God’s Word at last my sin I learned;
Then I trembled at the law I’d spurned,
Till my guilty soul imploring turned
    To Calvary.
  3. Now I’ve giv’n to Jesus everything,
Now I gladly own Him as my King,
Now my raptured soul can only sing
    Of Calvary!
  4. Oh, the love that drew salvation’s plan!
Oh, the grace that brought it down to man!
Oh, the mighty gulf that God did span
    At Calvary!

great communicators

Home-educating our children began as a decision to follow the path the Lord set before us.  We love it.

Our primary purpose is to raise homegrown kids that love the Lord our God and His Word with all their hearts, souls and minds.

On our long list of other goals, is a desire  to raise children that are great communicators.   To equip them with the skills and opportunities to  communicate  the spoken and written language, to whatever audience God has planned for their future.   First most to share the Good News, and second to succeed in their life’s callings.

A  recent Above Rubies magazine article  spoke of a family gathering with cousins to have a poetry-night.  This inspired me to have our very own  sharing-night.  I imagined gathering to provide an opportunity for our children to share a memorized poem, presentation, scripture, talent or gift -  in-front of an audience of peers.

Tonight, we gathered.    We began with sunny, outside, fall weather fun.   Followed by a yummy chili dinner with homemade bread and fruit salad.

Sharing began on our “stage”, the raised front foyer landing.    Each child shared a poem,  a scripture, and a musical piece.   It was lovely!

We moved and piled into the boys bedroom where our piano lives.

The Littles  danced and sang our favorite scripture song from God Rocks,  “The Fruit of the Spirit Is”.   I love the Biggies clapping along.

Sharing time was followed by an awesome chess tournament.  We had three boards going at once. Dads included. (And a table hockey game with checker pieces.)  Way to go Declan, the final chess champ of the night!

The Mommies snuggled the babies….

005-2009_11_20_151

While we were nursing the babies and not able to protect game pieces from disappearing, we did NOT put on a s.h.o.w…   I think God made Little Einsteins for such a times as these.

We are grateful and thankful for friends and being blessed with such wonderful kids.

I can see more fun nights like this in our future …

Have you done anything similar before?  Please share your ideas! What do you think would be fun and purposeful?

birthplace

I was delighted to read Ving’s perspective on birthplace in today’s English lesson.

Although this is not a great sentence, nor is it exactly following the directions….

Use capital letters to correctly write particular names for the following persons, places, and things.

#8. your birthplace  ______________________________

Ving’s answer:  Your birthplace is in the car?

Only a Salisbury.

That was NOT in the A Beka teacher’s answer key.

not-first-day-of-school

savoring the last moments of summer

savoring the last moments of summer

The full-force schedule didn’t happen today.  It wasn’t our first day of school… but what day is?

Oh, the flexibility of homeschooling!

Daddy woke the Biggies up at 6am to join him at the Good News Jail and Prison Ministry annual Golf Tournament.  They had a blast!  They were able to practice being gentleman in dress, greetings, and golf action.   Wonderful opportunity.

They returned home, completed chores, lunch, and we managed to have our full-force-schedule’s orientation, and complete the 3R’s, all  by 3:00.   The timing worked well having all three Littles asleep with naps, giving us a quiet environment to focus.   Hunter went off to gymnastics training, and Ving went to the YMCA to swim with grandma.

Our morning routine otherwise went well.  I did arise at 6am, enjoyed my exercise on the porch and quiet time.  Delightful.   I praise God for the fruits of the Spirit were evident through me today and my prayers were answered.    I reacted with peace and patience, that I otherwise lack in similar situations.  Thank you JESUS!

I knitted heart strings with Isaac, and he loved our “mommy time” together.  We had a fun time  playing with castle men, coloring, chalking on the driveway, and doing laundry.   His obedience and attitude were much improved.

Isaiah managed to comprehend and respond to my training attempts – to turn a whining and ugly attitude into a happy heart – revealing a happy face!  Progress!

I enjoyed dinner with Irv,  and the company of my dear friend Julie who stopped by to visit, and my wonderful MOM!

A great, not-first-day-of-school, indeed!

Flexibility is why we school year round, and keep the 3R’s at the forefront (reading, ‘ritting, and ‘rithmetic).  This provides the ability to appreciate the opportunities around us, and to be spontaneous.

Fall, is a time of year I seriously buckle down and accomplish much with school subjects and the extras.

But,  I guess it’s not Fall until the 22nd at 5:18 pm EDT. .. hehe.

Tomorrow,  we will be found lakeside, enjoying the sunshine and beautiful Canandiagua Lake at a sweet friends cottage.    The Biggies already have thier 3R’s packed and ready to go.

Full-force-schedule…. perhaps Thursday.

Sweet Blessings, and goodnight…
