At Calvary

Homeschool Language Workbook…

Directions: Finish the sentence by putting subjects in the blanks.

________________  died for our sins at Calvary.

student’s answer:   The Army

Sad, humbled teacher.

When I reviewed the incorrect answer with the student,  he answered… “Oh, Jesus.”

I am teaching a hymn today…. always one of my favs!

At Calvary

  1. Years I spent in vanity and pride,
    Caring not my Lord was crucified,
    Knowing not it was for me He died
    On Calvary.

    • Refrain:
      Mercy there was great, and grace was free;
      Pardon there was multiplied to me;
      There my burdened soul found liberty
      At Calvary.
  2. By God’s Word at last my sin I learned;
    Then I trembled at the law I’d spurned,
    Till my guilty soul imploring turned
    To Calvary.
  3. Now I’ve giv’n to Jesus everything,
    Now I gladly own Him as my King,
    Now my raptured soul can only sing
    Of Calvary!
  4. Oh, the love that drew salvation’s plan!
    Oh, the grace that brought it down to man!
    Oh, the mighty gulf that God did span
    At Calvary!

life-giving perfume

“Hope you read this.  It’s a good story.  You can ceep it if you want.”  -H.S.

Mornings, after family Bible Time the big boys have the choice to silently read and journal in their Devotion for BOYs binder or read out the ROCK devotional series from Vision Forum.    One morning, Hunter brought me these packets he made.   He has a special place in his heart for a boy at one of his activities.   He photocopied, stapled, and wrote a note on these specific short devotionals that he wanted to give to his friend.

14. Caught in the Net!

The day he chose to deliver these special packets, the boy was not present at class.  Hunter used the mail folder system and left it under the boy’s name.  When Hunter told me this, we felt it best to notify the boy’s parents of Hunter’s plan, as mail folders at a place of business might not be the best place to share religious material…

I received a delightful email reply from the boy’s family with appreciation for Hunter’s generosity and that the boys was enjoying reading them.

I love witnessing God stir in Hunter’s heart with this endeavor.   He did it all independently.   It’s fun talking with  him about hearing God’s still small voice, responding with obedience and his follow-up.

The next time he saw the boy, he asked him  “Did the evil all come out of your heart?”   While I know what he meant,  we were able discuss how we all are sinners and need JESUS as our Savior,  to live in our hearts and be Lord of our lives.

Hunter also thought he was a missionary only if the boy asked Jesus to live in his heart.  It was great to be able to explain that we are all missionaries when we share Jesus with the people around us and those God directs us to.  It is never our job or responsibility for people to ask Jesus to live in their hearts…  it’s just our job to share the greatest- GOOD NEWS ever.

We share and lead, the rest is between them and God.

Cool stuff.

I read this scripture today, and it reminds me of Hunter’s heart mission, and it encourages me to be aware of the fragrance I elude to my divine appointments! (I’m not always fresh and lovely!)

“But thank God!  He has made us his captives and continues to lead us along in Christ’s triumphal procession.  Now he uses us to spread the knowledge of Christ everywhere, like a sweet perfume.  Our lives are a Christ-like fragrance rising up to God.   But this fragrance is perceived differently by those who are being saved and by those who are perishing. To those who are perishing, we are a dreadful smell of death and doom.  But to those who are being saved, we are a life-giving perfume.  And who is adequate for such a task as this?”  2 Corinthians 2:14-17

Sweet fragrance sharing, my friends…

doing our best, and trusting God with the rest!

We spent the past weekend in New York City area.   We drove down as a family, plus my three sister-friends, on Friday in the Salis-bus.  Saturday we cheered on Hunter at his first gymnastics meet of this season.  (He has a total of five throughout December-March.)

For our family, it is difficult to travel distances with the Littles, so we plan to only do local meets.  We made an exception to go here as it was the first meet of the season and  we could spend time in NYC afterwards.

During warm-ups, I was playing around with the sports-mode of my camera.  The lighting was poor, but these pictures are fun.

We started gymnastics with both boys for fun  and physical education.   Hunter was asked to join the boys team after 2 years.   Around that time, Ving was asked as well, but he felt three hour practices was too long…. (He takes after his mother when it comes to long strenuous work-outs!)   Hunter’s been on the team now for 1.5 years, and we are entering his second competitive season.   He really seems to enjoy the sport.   I don’t think we are in this for the long haul,  but  we prayerfully take it season by season as it works for Hunter and our family.

At level 5, he is the youngest on the team and feels he is the worst.   We’ve been focusing on “Doing our best, and trusting God with the rest!” He’s been struggling with his new requirements in routines of all events, ecsp with back-hand-springs on floor.  He can’t do them alone.  At the meet, he had a choice to attempt it or not.  He chose to attempt,  having the coach come on the mat to spot him, knowing he’d get major point reductions and be the only athlete doing this.  Regardless, he didn’t take the easy way out and just do a round-off alone.   He persevered and pressed forward towards his goal.  I am very proud of him!

My mommy heart was happy for him to place 9th in vault.  He does a front flip off the spring board, and he stuck the landing.   There’s something about getting a metal for the boys….
